This area is home to Tennessee’s only free-flowing National Wild & Scenic River, the Obed. We have been paddling it since before Burt Reynolds made the Chattanooga famous in the Blue Ridge. As a matter of fact, one of our Visitor Center volunteers, Roy Guinn, was a partner in the Blue Hole Canoe company. The company moved to the area in 1974 and brought a new whitewater canoe to town, made of materials that simply didn’t exist before. Blue Hole Canoe — made somewhere in the hills of Tennessee.
